Three Coeur d’Alene Food Trucks stand out

Story and photos by Annie Zasadny

Whether you’re a Coeur d’Alene local or just visiting town for the weekend, there are several food trucks in the city that go above and beyond. Three rise to the top: Las Brasas, Young Shin's Famous Korean, and Raw Dead Fish

Las Brasas
Prairie Pavilion, 7777 Heartland Dr.
If you’re in the mood for mouth-watering Mexican food, drive over to Las Brasas on Prairie Avenue. Nestled in the Prairie Pavilion, a parking lot boasting some of the best food trucks in town complete with a beautifully furnished indoor dining area, this is one of the best Mexican stops in town. Their carnitas burrito always hit the spot–try adding the creamy chipotle sauce and guacamole for a fresh and rich meal. Las Brasas also travels to Live After Five, Coeur d’Alene’s weekly concert series in McEuen Park. There’s nothing like getting a cold beer and enjoying their crispy fish tacos while listening to local talent right next to the lake on summer evenings.

Young Shin's Famous Korean
Prairie Pavilion, 7777 Heartland Dr.
This family-run food truck hits it out of the park every time, so you’re sure to leave content. Try the sweet and tangy bibimbap (which makes for great leftovers) or the steaming veggie pancake peppered with scallions and dipped in soy sauce. The Korean corn dog is also a must-try. Sugar and potato crusts the interior hot dog, making for a surprising hit. While Young Shin’s is the only Korean cuisine option in Coeur d’Alene, they are extremely popular and also participate in bi-weekly farmer’s markets. At the downtown Coeur d’Alene and Hayden markets, they offer several of their most popular dishes along with mason jars filled with three different types of homemade spicy, umami kimchi. Don’t miss the white radish kimchi!

Raw Dead Fish
514 E. Best Ave.
Raw Dead Fish consistently serves high-quality, inventive dishes that will satisfy your sushi cravings. This above-average stand is located on Best Avenue next to several other tasty food trucks. Raw Dead Fish creates delicious rolls with unexpected ingredients (think tomatoes and jalapenos). Two great treats are the Caterpillar and Bruce Lee rolls. Raw Dead Fish’s delightfully sour sunomono (cucumber salad) is a perfect balance to the rolls, topped with sweet smoky eel sauce. rawdeadfish.net
