Idaho chefs and baker named 2022 James Beard Award Semifinalists

Three Idaho chefs and a Boise baker are semifinalists for the 2022 James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards, the James Beard Foundation announced in a press release Feb. 23.

Idaho’s semifinalists are:

Outstanding Baker:

Best Chef, Mountain Region (Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming):

  • Salvador Alamilla, Amano, Caldwell

  • Dan Ansotegui, Ansots, Boise

  • Kris Komori, KIN, Boise

The James Beard Foundation, a nonprofit based in New York City, is named for legendary chef, cookbook author, cooking instructor and television personality James Beard.

The awards “recognize exceptional talent in the culinary and food media industries, as well as a demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive,” according to the press release.

In response to a 2021 audit, the 2022 awards include new categories, a revised voting structure and other changes intended to address biases in the process, as reported by Eater.

The organization will announce the finalists on March 16 and honor winners at a June 13 celebration in Chicago.
