Bites and beverages along the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes

Story by Carol Woolum Roberts

The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes is one of the most popular trails in the state. Greatly sloping from Mullan down to Plummer across the panhandle, the 73-mile paved route includes 19 trailheads along the trail to provide multiple access sites for people riding bicycles, rollerbladers, walkers and birdwatchers. This scenic pathway is a Hall of Fame Rail-Trail and is part of the nation-spanning Great American Rail-Trail.

Users of the trail have a variety of establishments they can visit just off the trail for a cold beverage, ice cream, a snack or a meal.

As you begin in Mullan and travel through the historic Silver Valley, you’ll enjoy the views of the Coeur d’Alene River and the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene, then encounter the rolling farmlands toward the end of the trail in Plummer. Take advantage of the many eating establishments located just off the trail.
